When Quinn finds the two of you talking with Mercedes about what she’s been up to in LA, you have childishly naive hope that things won’t be awkward.
And they aren’t. Well, not really.
The four of you talk and laugh and with one hand clutching tightly to the empty glass in your hand and the other resting at the small of Brittany’s back, you almost forget.
It’s not until Mercedes leaves that things even get interesting. Quinn turns to you and her smile says too much. She leans in closer and places a hand on your forearm, her hazel eyes gleaming.
"I’ve missed you guys," she says, but the way she never takes her eyes off of you unsettles you and makes you shift unconsciously closer to Brittany.
"We should…catch up," she continues and Brittany’s scoff is nearly silent and you think you might’ve imagined it completely when she smiles in response.
Her blue eyes spark and linger on Quinn’s fingers still pressed lightly
into your skin. There’s nothing unfriendly in her gaze as she shifts away slightly, your own body following her pull without question.
The move pulls your arm just out of Quinn’s reach and you don’t have to time to question whether or not it was intentional because Brittany speaks.
Years of having known Brittany is all that allows both you and Quinn to recognize the dismissal for what it is.”
